Wedding Officiant in Durham Region

Maureen's home region, and where she's officiated more than 800 of her 1,000+ ceremonies.

About the Region

Getting married in Durham.

Durham Region sits east of Toronto along Lake Ontario, stretching from Pickering through Ajax, Whitby, and Oshawa to Bowmanville, with rural communities like Brooklin, Courtice, and Port Perry inland. Each municipality issues its own marriage licence: couples in Oshawa apply through the City of Oshawa, those in Whitby through the Town of Whitby, Pickering through the City of Pickering, Ajax through the Town of Ajax, and Bowmanville/Courtice through the Municipality of Clarington.

Maureen knows every one of these clerk's offices and their hours, and can guide you through the licence application process. Durham weddings range widely in style, from heritage estates to Lake Ontario waterfronts to championship golf clubs, and Maureen has officiated at most of the popular venues across the region.

Ceremony venues by style

Durham's strength is its variety. There's a venue for every aesthetic. Couples drawn to waterfront ceremonies gravitate to Jubilee Pavilion, The Lake House, and Port Whitby Marina; heritage weddings shine at Parkwood Estate and the Robert McLaughlin Gallery; golf-course celebrations excel at Royal Ashburn, Deer Creek, and Carruther's Creek; and convention-style weddings find their home at the Ajax Convention Centre and Durham Convention Centre.

Travel and rehearsals

Durham is Maureen's home region, and standard ceremony pricing includes up to 60 km of return travel, which covers most Durham venues from Pickering to Bowmanville; anything beyond that is quoted up front at booking. Because she's local, rehearsal availability is strong. Most Durham couples can schedule a weeknight or Friday evening rehearsal at the actual ceremony venue, not a stand-in space. That makes a real difference for the wedding party's confidence on the day.

Durham FAQs

Durham-specific questions.

Each municipality issues its own marriage licence. Most couples apply in the city or town where they live, though you can apply at any Ontario municipality and use that licence anywhere in the province. Licences are valid for 90 days from the date of issue, so most couples apply 1 to 2 months before their wedding date. You'll need two pieces of government-issued ID per person and the application fee.

Yes. Both are venues Maureen has officiated at multiple times. Parkwood Estate requires booking with the estate directly for the ceremony fee and offers several beautiful garden spaces alongside the historic mansion. The Jubilee Pavilion requires booking through the City of Oshawa, and its lakefront setting is hard to beat for a Durham wedding.

Up to 60 km of return travel from Maureen's Durham base is included in standard ceremony pricing, which covers most Durham Region venues. For venues beyond that, including parts of North Durham, a modest travel fee applies and is always quoted up front at booking, never as a surprise.

For elopements and legal-only ceremonies, often within 1 to 2 weeks depending on availability. For full-service ceremonies with custom script writing, rehearsals, and personalized rituals, booking 6 to 12 months ahead is recommended, especially for peak-season Saturdays from May through October.
